N-ACETYL-L-CYSTEINE, commonly abbreviated to NAC, is a powerful antioxidant amino acid and a precursor in the body to the critical antioxidant Glutathione (GSH). One of NACʼs most important role involves maintaining cellular GSH levels and minimising the damaging effect of reactive oxygen species (ROS). As oxidative stress is involved in the pathophysiology of numerous disease states, NAC supplementation may play a key role in both prevention and treatment of these conditions.
