What is an Antioxidant?
Antioxidants are substances that can prevent or slowdown the damage to cells caused by free radicals.
Free radicals are highly reactive and unstable molecules that are produced in the body naturally as a byproduct of metabolism (a chemical reaction in the body cells that change food into energy) or by exposure to toxins in the environment such as pollution, attacks from external microbes such as bacteria/virus and ultraviolet light. If the body cannot process and remove free radicals efficiently, oxidative stress can result. This oxidative stress can harm cells and body functions. This will result into compromise with the immunity of the body.
Human body has Antioxidants to defend and protect itself from Free Radicals. Moreover, antioxidants are also found in food, especially in fruits, vegetables, nuts and other plant-based whole foods. There are various kinds of antioxidants, each having its own function. These antioxidants are not interchangeable and in fact they function by interacting with other antioxidants to help the body work effectively and achieve the optimum immunity. This is why it is important to have a varied diet. Several vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Zeaxanthin, Selenium, Manganese and Zinc are effective antioxidants which we get from our food. Along with diet, due to current lifestyle, we need to supplement antioxidants externally. Hence, while choosing such supplements it is preferred to choose one which has multiple antioxidants, as compared to a supplement having a single antioxidant.
What is ORAC?
ORAC: Measuring unit of the strength of an Antioxidant
Now the question which can arise is how one can know the right quantity of Antioxidants in our daily diet? The answer is Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) of an Antioxidant.
The power and strength of an Antioxidant product is measured with a value which is known as ORAC. It is the unit which measures the capability of and antioxidant to neutralize the Free Radicals. Higher the ORAC value, stronger is the Antioxidant capacity of a particular antioxidant or food.
To further simplify, the way liquid is measured in liters and solid is measured in grams or kilograms, the antioxidant capacity of an antioxidant or food is measured in ORAC. Synershield Z has ORAC value 3600 which is high ORAC Value for daily intake of an Antioxidant
Synershield Z is a unique dietary supplement that contains 3 powerful antioxidants Vitamin C, Curcumin and the master antioxidant Coenzyme Q10, along with immune boosters Zinc, and Vitamin D3.
International references have shown that healthy Immune System Requires 3000 -5500 Daily ORAC intake. The ORAC value of just a single tablet of Synershield Z is 3600
The ORAC value of routinely consumed fruits and Vegetables are as follows.
Fruits and Vegetables | ORAC Value/100 gm |
Strawberries | 1540 |
Broccoli | 890 |
Raisins | 2830 |
Spinach | 1260 |
Oranges | 750 |
Eggplant | 390 |
Corn | 400 |
